JOSH is a personal training and nutrition tracker. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices.
What We Collect
- Account: your email address, and your name if you choose to share it.
- What you log: foods and their nutrition values, lifts (exercise, weight, reps), cardio sessions you add by hand, body composition scan numbers, your targets, and your chat messages to the in-app logger.
- Coaching (only if you use it): your coaching link, weekly check-ins, training programs and messages between you and your coach or clients.
- Photos you choose to send: food, nutrition label or scan photos are sent once to be read and are not stored by us.
- Barcodes you scan: only the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a public food database, to look up the label. No personal data goes with it.
- Apple Health (only if you allow it): daily active and resting calories, sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, body weight, and workout summaries (type, start time, duration, calories). The app reads these to show your burn and recovery. It does not write to Apple Health.
- Crew profile (only if you create one): a handle, a display name and an optional profile photo. The photo is stored at a hard-to-guess web link so the app can show it to other Crew members.
Crew and Leaderboards (Optional)
Crew is off until you set up a profile and choose what to share. You decide, separately, whether to share (1) calorie burn and days in your calorie range, (2) workouts and workout minutes, and (3) training volume and personal records. Only daily summary totals are shared, never your food log, body scans, chat, or individual Apple Health readings. Shared totals are visible only to people you accept as friends, and, if you also turn on the public board, to other JOSH users on the all-time leaderboard (handle, name, photo and score). You can change any of these, remove friends, or turn sharing off at any time in the app, and your shared totals stop showing right away. Profile photos are checked automatically for inappropriate content before they are shown (the photo is sent to Anthropic for this check only). You can block or report anyone from their profile. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and accounts that break the community rules are removed.
Coaching (Optional)
If you join a coach with their code, that coach can see your food log and macros, lifts and workouts, cardio, Apple Health burn, sleep and recovery summaries, body scans and weight, and your targets, for as long as you stay with them. Your coach can change your targets, send you a training program, reply to your weekly check-ins and message you. You can leave your coach at any time in Settings > Coaching, and their access ends immediately. Coaches see only clients who joined them. Both sides must agree to the community rules first. Messages, check-ins and programs are automatically filtered for slurs and explicit content. Either side can report the other (or a single message by pressing and holding it), and leave or remove the other at any time. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and accounts that break the rules are removed.
How We Use It
Only to run the app for you: show your totals, charts and progress, and turn your messages and photos into log entries. We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with data brokers. Health data from Apple Health is never used for advertising or marketing.
Who Processes It
- Supabase (database, sign-in and server functions) stores your account and logs.
- Anthropic (Claude API), a third-party AI service, only after you allow AI logging in the app. When you use Log to Josh or scan reading, JOSH sends Anthropic your message, any photos you attach, and context needed for an accurate answer: your first name, your last few messages with Josh, recent food log, usual foods, targets, plan, lift history and latest scan weight. For restaurant and packaged foods, Claude may search the web for the official nutrition facts; only the food name is searched. Your Apple Health data is never sent to Anthropic. Anthropic processes this only to answer you and does not use API data to train its models. You can turn AI logging off any time in Settings.
- Apple, only if you choose Sign in with Apple.
- Other JOSH users, only for the Crew totals you choose to share, and your coach if you join one (see above).
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Each account can only access its own rows.
Your Choices
- You can edit or delete any entry in the app.
- You can turn off Apple Health access at any time in iPhone Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > JOSH.
- You can export all of your data to a file in the app: Settings > Your data > Export.
- You can turn off any Crew sharing, leave the public board, or delete your Crew profile in Settings (the Crew row, which shows your name once you have a profile).
- You can delete your account and all of your data in the app: Settings > Delete account and all data. Deletion is immediate and permanent and includes your profile photo.
Children
JOSH is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Not Medical Advice
JOSH provides general fitness and nutrition information only. It is not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before making major changes to your diet or training.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will change and the app will show the new version.
